About Krypton Capital
Our core philosophy is centred on our belief that we are investing in individuals as much as their business product. We back driven individuals where there is a clear business goal underpinned by a sound growth strategy. Our objective is to identify high quality enterprises, sustained by consistent growth and earnings.
We aim to equally challenge and support the management team. Typically this includes involvement in the budgeting & planning process, building staff infrastructure and exploring new markets. Additionally, we prepare companies for full or partial sale, and provide advice on funding and exit options, utilising our wide network of contacts. As "partners" we typically take a Board role, offering input, not "interference". For start-ups a full "plug and play" option is offered providing the management and sales team with offices, back and front office support, including HR and marketing, if required.
How we are different
Uniquely different to most Venture Capitalists, our investment panel are all Industry experienced. Hence our advice is given not only through the eyes of an "investment banker" but with genuine understanding of the sector. We have invested our own capital in this fund, as opposed to us being typical "fund managers", ensuring the highest level of commitment and interest in any investment. We are not simply "passive" investors.
Krypton is financed by a number of high net worth individuals together with institutional funding. Consequently, we are not bound by conventional Private Equity pressures. There are no ties to fixed investment yields or returns of capital within pre-determined time frames. We have complete flexibility on the structure and nature of any deal or exit option we agree. We never lose sight of the Entrepreneurial spirit of our partners, which is critical to retain in all our ventures.
Transactions are completed in the minimum of time, without unnecessary cost or bureaucracy.
Krypton Capital is led by Gary Laurence.
Currently an advisor to a number of Boards within the sector, Gary is a regular speaker at International Recruitment events and frequent press contributor. He is an ambassador for The Princes Trust, mentoring young entrepreneurs, and was a judge at the 2013 National Business Awards. Gary was voted "Entrepreneur of the Year" by Ernst & Young in 2004, won "Entrepreneur of the Year "at the National Business Awards in 2005 and was recognised for "Lifetime Achievement "in 2006 by the Recruitment Industry.
After initially training in Accountancy, Gary moved into Recruitment launching his first financial recruitment company in 1982 before selling it to ACSIS Group Plc in 1987. As a Board member, he made various acquisitions but left in 1992 to form a new group, with the backing of Private Equity. This new company grew rapidly, and he eventually sold it to a US Fortune 500 group in 1995 where he remained as European CEO until he resigned in 1998. In 1999 he was instrumental in the creation and eventual successful IPO of an Internet business on AIM.
In 2000, again with private equity, he formed Huntress Recruitment and built an international group spanning many specialist disciplines, from contingency to search. Huntress was sold to Nomura Private Equity in November 2007, where he remained as Chairman until 2009.
